For many years, Sikkim was regarded as one of the last Himalayan 'Shangrilas' because of its remoteness, spectacular mountain terrian, varied flora and fauna and ancient Buddhist monasteries. You need a special permit to enter Sikkim (which can be arranged through Tibet Tours and Travels while confirming your trip to Sikkim). Access to eastern part of Sikkim along the Tibetan Border remains highly restricted and trekking to the base of Kanchenjunga has to be organised through a recognised travel agency.
